Armintie Price Earns SEC Player Of The Week Honors

2/5/2007 | Women's Basketball

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. After guiding Ole Miss to back-to-back road wins over Florida and Arkansas, Rebel senior guard Armintie Price was tabbed Southeastern Conference Player of the Week. Price picked up the honor for the fourth time this season and the ninth time in her career, making her the all-time leader in SEC history for the award. Georgia’s Christy Marshall picked up SEC Freshman of the Week honors, as announced by the league office on Monday.

“Our team had a great week,” said Ole Miss head coach Carol Ross. “A lot of the good things that have happened with our team were a result of the tough play of Armintie. She continues to do what she does, which is play hard and with great effort every time she steps on the court.”

Price opened the week by collecting her 10th double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds in a win at Florida. She also tallied five assists and three steals versus the Gators as Ole Miss took home a 74-62 victory.

She then posted her 11th double-double of the season and 53rd of her career with 30 points and 13 rebounds versus Arkansas, to go along with six steals and five assists. Price notched 20-first half points in the win over the Lady Razorbacks and had a steal and a lay-up in the closing minutes of the second overtime period to help lift the Rebels to the 90-87 double-overtime win.

Price’s 30 points also moved her into fourth place on the Ole Miss all-time scoring chart. She now has 1,948 career points. She also moved into third place on the SEC’s all-time steals chart. She has 362 steals in her Rebel career and just needs 10 to take over second place from former Mississippi State great Tan White.

For the week, the Myrtle, Miss., native averaged 23.5 points, 11.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 4.5 steals. She also made 19-of-29 shots from the field, good for 65.5 percent.

Price has now won the honor a total of nine times in her career, marking the most selections for a single player in conference history. LSU’s Seimone Augustus and Vanderbilt’s Wendy Scholtens each nabbed the honor eight times in their respective careers.

Price and her Rebel teammates will host a pair of games this week. Kentucky will visit Tad Smith Coliseum on Thursday, Feb. 8 at 7 p.m., while Alabama will make the trip on Sunday, Feb. 11 at 2 p.m.
