OXFORD, Miss. Ole Miss signed Yogi Gunther, an infielder from Westminster Academy in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., to a national letter of intent Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco announced on Tuesday.

Gunther, a senior at Westminster Academy, will follow in the footsteps of older brother, Barry, who was a catcher for the Rebels from 2002-05.

“We are excited to have Yogi join our program and look forward to getting him on the field,” said Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco. “He is the latest in a long tradition of families who choose to play baseball for this program and that’s something we consider to be very important.”

Yogi Gunther has been solid for Westminster this season, hitting .517 on the year with an .828 slugging percentage and a .588 on base percentage. Gunther has scored 34 runs on the season and notched 34 RBI to go along with nine doubles and six home runs to go along with seven steals.

Standing at 6-1 and 200 pounds, Gunther was named a Second Team All-State selection by the Florida Sports Writer’s Association in 2006.
