Rebel Freshman Golfer Tied For Second At Squire Creek
10/13/2008 | Men's Golf
David is tied with four other players at 5-under, just two shots back of LSU’s Jarrod Barsamian, who shot a 7-under 137. “We had two high scores in the morning round, and that put us behind,” head coach Ernest Ross said. “In the afternoon the weather was perfect for scoring-warm and no wind. Many teams lit it up, and we couldn’t keep pace. “I am proud of Joe David, who is in second place. Jesse Speirs and Sean Dale are both under par, and I know they feel they let some shots get away. We will have to minimize our errors tomorrow and have four players play well if we are to have a chance.” LSU and Speirs and Dale both finished at 143 and are tied for 18th. Speirs shot 71-72, while Dale had a 72-71. Both senior Stefan Strandlund and junior Will Roebuck struggled with a 79 and 78 respectively in the first round. Strandlund rebounded for a 72 in the second round, and Roebuck carded a 73. After an average morning by the players, the performances picked up significantly during the afternoon's second round as 35 players shot below par and another 11 shot even par. The 16 teams shaved 115 total strokes off the morning totals, an average of over seven strokes per team. In all 14 of the 16 teams improved their team totals during afternoon play. The third and final round will begin Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.
