Rebels Head To Tampa For USF Tournament

OXFORD, Miss. The Ole Miss Rebel softball team heads to Tampa, Fla. this weekend for the USF-Best Western Invitational hosted by the University of South Florida.
The Rebels will join a field that includes host school USF, Florida A&M, Florida Gulf Coast, Hofstra and Tennessee. Ole Miss and Florida Gulf Coast will play in the tournament's first game Saturday at 8:30 a.m. CT at the USF Softball Complex.
Ole Miss has never played Florida Gulf Coast and holds a 1-0 series lead on Florida A&M. The Rebels trail South Florida 1-2 in the all-time series, while SEC rival Tennessee holds a 4-24 advantage over Ole Miss.
The Rebels will face South Florida at 10:30 a.m. in the second game on Saturday. They will play Florida A&M at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday and Tennessee at 10:30 a.m. On Monday, Ole Miss will square off against Hofstra at 10:30 a.m.
Ole Miss improved to 5-1 on the season after a doubleheader sweep of Alcorn State in the home opener on Wednesday. The Rebels scored 39 combined runs to the two games, including a school-record tying 22 runs in game one.
Senior Lauren Rowe blasted a grand slam, the seventh in school history, in game one, while pitcher Tara Willitt and Lindsey Perry combined to hold the Lady Braves to one hit in a 17-0 shutout in game two.
