Pack The Tennis Center As Rebels Host Gators

3/20/2008 | Men's Tennis

OXFORD, Miss. Baseball isn’t the only team hosting Florida this weekend.  The No.5 nationally-ranked Rebel tennis team plays No. 18 Florida Friday at 2 p.m., at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center.

The six-time defending SEC West Champions are looking for a victory to stay in the thick of the SEC Championship race, and they want your help.  Pack the tennis center and help the Rebels set a single match attendance record.

The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) is sponsoring an attendance race this season, and the Rebels are currently ranked in the top 10 with only two home events counting in the first standings, which reflect matches in January and February.

The first 100 fans to the match will receive a free t-shirt, compliments of the Oxford T-shirt Company.

“Presently we are leading the conference in average attendance,” head coach Billy Chadwick said.  “Our tennis stadium and pavilions are great for the fans, and they are a big part of our home court advantage.  We would like to encourage everyone to come out and help the Rebels beat the Gators in both tennis and baseball.”

The Rebels have won 48 of their last 50 matches at home, including a 5-2 win over the Gators last year in front of a packed house.

Admission to all home matches is free.
