Ole Miss Receives NCAA Decision on Rebel Catcher Kyle Henson

3/4/2008 | Baseball

OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss officials announced Tuesday that it has received a decision from the NCAA which will require catcher Kyle Henson, a junior college transfer, to miss the first 50 percent of the 2008 season. The decision is the result of a situation involving a violation of the NCAA rule on "representation for future negotiations" (rule 12.3.1.1). "We intend to appeal this decision and hope the appeals committee will consider reducing Kyle's penalty," said Ole Miss Senior Associate Athletics Director for Compliance David Wells. "However, we are pleased to learn that Kyle will be eligible to compete at some point this season." Henson transferred to Ole Miss from San Jacinto College where he lettered two years and was a two-time All-Conference selection. As a sophomore, he hit .315 with four home runs and 23 RBI. He lettered four years at Oak Ridge High School in Conroe, Texas and was a two-time All-State selection as he both caught and pitched.
