9/29/2008 | Men's Golf
OXFORD, Miss. The Ole Miss men's golf team, coming off a second-place finish at the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate, jumped up to No.11 in the latest Golfweek Rankings.
This is the highest ranking for the program since head coach Ernest Ross returned in 2004.
"Our team has been improving every year," Ross said. "I am proud of our play this fall, and still feel like we have room to improve. Our goals are based on performing well, and we will let the rankings take care of themselves. All we can control is our play, and we are practicing hard to get better every day."
The Rebels opened the season with an eighth-place finish at the Carpet Capital Invitational, which featured 15 teams in the preseason top 30, before beating then No. 2 LSU, No. 19 Texas Tech, No. 21 Wake Forest and No. 25 Auburn on their way to the second-place showing at the Shoal Creek.
Eight teams from the SEC are ranked in the latest top 30 including Arkansas (No. 2), Tennessee (No. 5), South Carolina (No. 6), Florida (No. 10), Ole Miss (No. 11), Alabama (No. 15), LSU (No. 18) and Georgia (No. 19).
Coming up on the schedule, the Rebels will look to defend their title at the Memphis Intercollegiate Oct. 6-7 and Colonial Country Club.
