OXFORD, Miss. - Whitney Craven put down a match-high 16 kills and hit .464 for the match, while Katie Norris added 11 kills as Ole Miss (8-11, 2-7 SEC) went on the road Wednesday and defeated Arkansas (10-10, 4-5 SEC) by a score of 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-16).
The win was the second straight for the Rebels this season and was the seventh consecutive win over Arkansas for Ole Miss. The Rebels have not lost to the Razorbacks since the 2005 season.
"Whitney Craven had another strong match for us, but I think the team played well and executed a good game plan tonight," said Ole Miss head coach Joe Getzin. "The most important thing for us is to continue to improve on what we did well tonight and take that on the road with us against a good LSU team in Baton Rouge on Sunday."
Morgan Springer led the Rebels with 10 digs on the night, while freshman setter Marielle Oestermeyer turned in a solid performance in the start with 35 assists on the night.
Ole Miss came out on fire and was clicking offensively from the start as the Rebels took an early lead on the Lady 'Backs that swelled to as much as 14-6 in the early stages of the set. Arkansas would cut into the lead, but never got closer than four points at 20-16 as Ole Miss closed out the first set as strongly as it began 25-18 on a service ace from Craven.
The second set started with an early Arkansas run as the home team moved out to a 6-3 lead. Ole Miss lost no time in closing the gap, however, using a run to move into the lead at 9-7 and never relinquished the lead from there. Arkansas would cut the lead to two several times, but never was able to overtake the Rebels as Ole Miss took the second set 25-22.
Ole Miss left nothing to chance in the third set, again jumping on the Lady 'Backs early and storming ahead to a 10-4 advantage. The lead would swell to as much as nine points at 17-8, as the Rebels continued to press the advantage on the way to the win. Ole Miss took the match in a sweep with a 25-16 win in the third set.
The Rebels will return to action on Sunday when Ole Miss will face No. 24 LSU on the road in Baton Rouge. The match is set for a 1:30 p.m. start time at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. LSU will take on Arkansas Friday night, while the Rebels will have the day off.
