Rebels Fall At No. 24 LSU 3-0 On Sunday

BATON ROUGE, La. - Katie Norris and Caitlin Weiss put down seven kills each Sunday, but the Rebels couldn't find the offensive rhythm to keep pace with the LSU Tigers as Ole Miss (8-12, 2-8 SEC) fell to No. 24 LSU (15-4, 9-1 SEC) by a score of 3-0 (13-25, 9-25, 19-15).
Regina Thomas hit .500 for the match with four kills on eight swings and no errors. Morgan Springer led the back row defense of the Rebels with 16 digs on the afternoon.
The first set opened with the teams going back and forth trading scores before LSU found the first opening and made a quick run out to a 10-7 lead and sent Ole Miss into a timeout. The Tigers continued the run out of the break, pushing the lead out to 19-11 before the Rebels took another timeout. Ole miss couldn't slow down LSU however, though, as the Tigers took the first set 25-13.
The second set opened with LSU picking up where they left off, running out to a quick 9-3 lead on the Rebels before Ole Miss would call a timeout. The Rebels managed only three more points in the next Tiger run as LSU extended the advantage to 17-6 and forced Ole Miss into its second timeout of the set. LSU went on to take the second set 25-9.
After a quick to scores to open the third set and take the early lead, Ole Miss fell behind again as the Tigers used a run to move out to a 10-5 lead and push the Rebels into a timeout. Ole Miss cut into the lead, trimming the edge to three at 18-17 on a block from Miranda Kitts and Whitney Craven followed by a kill from Craven that sent LSU into a timeout. The Rebels got no closer, however, as LSU took the match with a 25-19 win in the third set.
Ole Miss returns to action on the road for the second straight weekend on Friday when the Rebels will take on South Carolina. The Rebels play eight of their first 12 SEC matches on the road this season and close out the weekend at No. 9 Florida on Sunday.
