11/14/2009 | Volleyball
Craven's 13 kills were a team-high, while senior Caitlin Weiss added 10 kills on the night. But, Alabama hit .418 as a team paced by Alyssa Meuth's 16 kills and .583 hitting percentage to defeat the Rebels.
Ole Miss fell behind early in the first set before battling back to tie the score at 10. The squads traded scores on the next few rallies before the Rebels moved out into the lead with a 16-12 advantage on the Crimson Tide. Ole Miss held the lead for much of the rest of the set, but it slipped away late as Alabama evened things at 23 before claiming the first set 26-24.
The second set was identical to the first, with the Rebels falling behind early but fighting back into the match to knot things at 10 points each. This time, however, Alabama was the team to move out into the lead and held it as the Crimson Tide closed out the second set 25-18 to take a two-set lead into the break.
Set three was similar to the first two frames with the squads trading scores early, but the 10-point marked proved to the spot where a team again surged forward. For the second time in the match it was the Rebels, taking a two point lead. And for the second time in the match, the lead disappeared as Alabama fought back to tie things at 17 before moving ahead to take the set 25-19.
Alabama claimed the match 3-0 with the win in the third set.
Ole Miss will return to action on Sunday when the Rebels face the Mississippi State Bulldogs at 1:30 p.m. at the Newell-Grissom Building on campus at Mississippi State University. The Rebels will be looking to avenge an early season loss as Mississippi State clipped the Rebels 3-2 in Oxford in the first meeting between the two teams.
