OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss baseball team added a pair of pitchers expected to provide immediate contributions to the program in 2011 with the signing of Mike Mayers and Bobby Wahl, head coach Mike Bianco has announced.

The two are the latest announced signees for the Rebels' 2010 class and join four Mississippians in the signing class. Ole Miss announced the signing of Ryan Bolden, Casey Greene, Austin Hartzog and Jimel Judon last week.

"This group is part of a very talented class that we're bringing to Ole Miss," said assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Rob Reinstetle. "We feel this is one of the best classes ever to sign here. We have several players ranked in the top 100 nationally by publications and have filled our needs with some young talented position players and some top quality arms who will all make an impact early. We feel we are setting ourselves up for future runs to Omaha and the College World Series."

Mayers, a 6-4 right-handed pitcher, comes to Ole Miss from Grove City High School in Grove City, Ohio. This past season, Mayers posted a 10-1 record on the mound with a 1.80 ERA as he earned All-State honors. He helped lead Grove City to a 20-8 record last season and claimed the 2009 Sectional Championship.

He also plays quarterback for Grove City and has competed for three years with the Columbus Cobras summer baseball team.

"Mike is a talented athlete and is the ace on his high school baseball team and is the quarterback on their football team," Reinstelte said. "He throws his fastball in the 88-91 range and has a hard slider and a solid change-up."

Mayers chose Ole Miss over North Carolina, North Carolina State, Ohio State and Tennessee.

Wahl, a 6-4 right-handed pitcher, comes to Ole Miss from West Springfield High School in Springfield, Virginia. He is ranked as one of the Top 100 players in the country by PerfectGame and Baseball America, after posting a 6-1 record with a 1.89 ERA as he struck out 65 batters and walked only nine in 40.0 innings of work.

The right-hander was named a first team All-District selection and was rated as the top player in the state of Virginia by PerfectGame.

"Bobby throws a fastball in the 88-92 range, but can touch 94 miles per hour," Reinstetle said. "He's one of the top players in the country and best from the state of Virginia. He throws both a slider and a curve, and has a solid change-up as well. We look forward to what he and Mike can bring to our lineup."

Wahl chose Ole Miss over North Carolina, Virginia, Clemson and Virginia Tech.
