OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss men's golf team has landed one of the nation's top junior college players in Zach Primavera, of Central Alabama Community College, head coach Ernest Ross announced Tuesday. Primavera will begin competing for the Rebels in the fall of 2010.
Primavera earned All-Tournament Medalist honors three times, including the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) D1 District and Region Championships as a freshman at CACC. He also finished runner-up in the 2009 NJCAA National Championship.
"Zach is an outstanding player and person. He has excelled at every level, both in junior golf and junior college golf," Ross said. "I know he will be able to help our team right away. He is a long, accurate driver and he putts well. He has the knack for being able to shoot low scores. We are excited to have him coming to Ole Miss."
A native of Panama City, Fla., Primavera earned PING All-Region first team, PING All-Region Player of the Year, PING All-American first team and NJCAA D1 All-American first team honors. Primavera led his team with a 73.10 scoring average.
Already during his sophomore campaign, Primavera has recorded two second-place finishes and one fourth-place finish and ranks second in the NJCAA. His low round this fall is a 66, and he owns a scoring average of 72.18.
In high school, Primavera finished among the top 10 in the Florida Boys State Championship and was an All-American. He won seven Southeastern Junior Golf Tour (SJGT) events including the SJGT Championship. In addition he finished in the top 20 at the Florida State Amateur.
Primavera joins Ohio native Kyle Kmiecik to round out this year's signing class.
