Thirteenth-Ranked Rebels Down Central Arkansas 10-2

OXFORD, Miss. Ole Miss (2-2) was efficient offensively on Tuesday, notching 10 runs on eight hits as the 13th-ranked Rebels defeated Central Arkansas (2-2) by a score of 10-2 in the first game played at the newly renovated Oxford-University Stadium.
Eight different Rebels notched hits on the night, including a solo home run from Jeremy Travis and a big three-run double from Tim Ferguson as Ole Miss picked up the win.
Jake Morgan (2-0) grabbed the win in relief for the Rebels as he worked 2.1 innings and allowed only one hit while striking out four and walking one. Starter Nathan Baker went 4.2 innings, allowing two runs one earned on four hits with two walks and five strikeouts.
Dustin Ward (0-1) suffered the loss for the Bears as he allowed four runs on four hits with a walk and a strikeout in 0.2 innings of relief work. Starter Reece Cross worked 4.1 innings and allowed two runs on two hits with four walks and a strikeout.
Central Arkansas scored in the first inning when Josh Huffman scored from third on a two out single from Jonathan Yerby. Huffman doubled before moving to third on a passed ball, putting him in scoring position for the Yerby hit.
The Bears extended the lead in the fifth with an RBI double from Tye Throneberry that scored Dillon Smith from first. Smith reached when he was hit by a pitch to open the inning.
Ole Miss responded in the bottom half of the inning, exploding for four runs in the frame. Jordan Henry's two-RBI single up the middle score Kevin Mort and Brett Basham to tie the game before Logan Power laced a two-RBI single up the middle a few batters later to score Matt Smith and Henry.
The Rebels then tacked on five more runs in the sixth, sparked by a Taylor Hashman home run to open the inning. Ferguson's three RBI double down the left field line with the bases loaded pushed the Rebels well out in front before Ferguson scored on a fielding error on a grounder from Smith.
Ole Miss added a final run in the eighth when Taylor Hightower scored from third on a groundout to second from Matt Snyder.
The Rebels and Central Arkansas will play again on Wednesday at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field. First-pitch is set for 3 p.m.
