Rebels Split Double Header With South Carolina

“The girls showed a lot of character and heart to battle back for the win, especially after losing a close, extra-inning game like we did,” said Ole Miss head coach Missy Dickerson.
The Rebels struck first as they broke the game open in the top of the third with five runs, three of which scored with two outs. Becky Nye picked up the win for the Rebels after pitching the final 2.1 innings and allowing only one hit. Lindsey Perry started for Ole Miss and pitched 4.1 innings. She gave up six hits and six runs, while striking out one.

Gamecock right fielder Laura Mendes singled up the middle with one down in the frame and moved up second on a ground out, before Childs stepped to the plate and singled to center to send Mendes racing home.
In the top of the 11th, after three scoreless innings, Rebel first baseman Aly Preswood led off the frame with a walk and Courtnie Ghinaudo laid down a bunt single to put runners at first and second with no outs for Ole Miss. A wild pitch moved both base runners up, before Corinne Doornberg grounded out for the first out of the inning and Lisa Conchos struck out to put two down. Lauren Grill was then intentionally walked for the third time in the game to bring up designated player Michelle May, who grounded out to strand all three runners.

Junior All-American Lauren Grill answered for Ole Miss in the top of the sixth with a solo home run to left center that tied the score at one. It was Grill’s sixth homer of the season and 32nd career long ball.
