Rebel Duo Top Seed In NCAA Doubles

4/29/2009 | Men's Tennis

OXFORD, Miss.   A day after learning they would be traveling for the NCAA first and second rounds, the No. 2 nationally ranked Ole Miss men’s tennis team got some good news Wednesday, with the senior duo of Jonas Berg and Bram ten Berge earning the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Doubles Championship, as the individual selections were announced.

Berg and ten Berge ended the regular season ranked No. 1 in the nation in doubles.   The 2008 ITA All-American Champions own 16-9 record at No. 1 doubles.  Berg advanced to the NCAA Doubles Final last year, while ten Berge reached the semifinals.

In singles, Berg is seeded 9-16.  He is presently ranked No. 16 in the country with 13-6 record at No. 1 singles.

Freshman Devin Britton made the NCAA Championships in singles as did junior Kalle Norberg.  Britton, ranked No. 30 in the nation, recently clinched the SEC Tournament title for the Rebels and is 12-4 at No. 2 singles.  Norberg, ranked No. 40, owns a 30-3 overall record, and is 14-1 at No. 3 singles.  He was the only player in the SEC to go undefeated in league play.

All four helped lead the Rebels to the SEC Regular Season Championship, the SEC Tournament Championship and their eighth straight SEC West title.  The Rebels earned their highest seed (No.2) in the NCAA Championships since 1997, and will face Alcorn State in the first round May 8 in Baton Rouge, La.

The NCAA Individual Championships will take place May 20-25 in College Station, Texas.
