COLLEGE STATION, Texas Members of the No. 2 nationally ranked Ole Miss men’s tennis team will begin play in the NCAA Individual Championships Wednesday at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center.
The singles competition gets underway Wednesday, and Ole Miss is well represented with senior Jonas Berg, junior Kalle Norberg and freshman Devin Britton. Berg is seeded 9-16 and will face Dimitar Kutrovsky of Texas, in the first round at 10 a.m. In his last match, Berg downed UCLA’s Matt Brooklyn to even the match.
Norberg, ranked No. 40 in the nation, will meet Steven Johnson of Southern California in the first round at 4 p.m. The All-SEC first teamer has won 17 in a row. Ironically his only dual match loss this season came when he had to retire against Johnson in the Rebels’ first round match against USC in the ITA National Team Indoor due to having the flu.
Britton, who was a finalist for the ITA National Rookie of the Year and has won eight in a row, will play Mortiz Baumann of Wisconsin at 2:30 p.m. Britton clinched the Rebels’ win over Texas A&M in the Sweet 16 and then won a three-setter against UCLA to put the Rebels on the board.
Berg and fellow senior Bram ten Berge are the top seed in the doubles, which will begin Thursday. They will face the Virginia team of Dominic Inglot and Michael Shabaz.
