BATON ROUGE, La. - Ole Miss senior Jonathan Randolph fired a 6-under 66 in the first round of the David Toms Intercollegiate for the low round of the day, and is just two back of the leaders after the first two rounds of play here Monday at the Country Club of Louisiana.
Randolph, a native of Brandon, Miss., is tied for fifth at 5-under. He has been in this position before, winning three times last year and finishing in the top five eight times. The All-American carded six birdies and only one bogey in the first round. In the second round, Randolph carded a 1-over 73. He was 1-under through 12 holes, but made back-to-back bogeys at 13 and 14 for the 73.
The Rebels as a team shot an even par 288 in the first round, but struggled to a 295 in the second round and dropped to ninth in the standings heading into the final round.
Ninth-ranked LSU raced out to a big lead with a second round 276 for a 17-under 559 total. The Tigers lead No. 8 Arkansas by seven shots (566), and Middle Tennessee (569) by 10. South Alabama (570) and North Florida (573) round out the top five. LSU's Ken Looper and Ken Gugtsell are tied for the lead at 7-under.
