2/11/2010 | Men's Golf
NORMAN, Okla. - Ole Miss junior golfer Jonathan Randolph has been named to the Ben Hogan Award Watch list as announced by Chesapeake Energy, in association with Colonial Country Club, The Friends of Golf (FOG) and the Golf Coaches Association of America, Thursday.
The most prestigious award in men's college golf, the Hogan is presented annually to the top men's NCAA Division I, II or III, NAIA or NJCAA college golfer taking into account all collegiate and amateur competitions during a 12-month period.
"This is a tremendous recognition for Jonathan to be considered among the top 25 college players in America," head coach Ernest Ross said. "He is especially deserving of this, and we are looking forward to an outstanding spring season."
Randolph owns an SEC and team-leading 70.08 stroke average and is ranked No. 17 in the Golfweek Rankings. The Brandon, Miss., native won his first collegiate title last fall, capturing the Mason Rudolph Championship with an 11-under 131. He fired a career-best 64 in the first round of the Mason Rudolph.
In the fall, Randolph had a first-round scoring average of 68.20 and finished four of five tournaments under par. He posted six rounds in the 60s and nine rounds at or under par.
Last summer, Randolph captured the Mississippi State Amateur Championship, tied for 13th at the Southern Amateur and advanced to match play at the U.S. Amateur.
The Hogan Award semifinalists will be announced April 14. The three finalists named on May 11 will be invited to Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, for the Hogan Award presentation on the evening of May 24.
Randolph and his teammates will kick off the spring season this weekend at the Gator Invitational.
