Rebel Golfers Head To Coast For Tournament
2/19/2010 | Men's Golf
OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss men's golf team heads down to the coast this weekend for the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate hosted by South Alabama Feb. 21-23 at the Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course.
The 18-team field includes SEC teams Kentucky, Mississippi State and Vanderbilt. Play begins Sunday at 7:30 a.m. with 18 holes each day from the 1st and 10th tees.
Leading the Rebels is junior Jonathan Randolph, this week's Golfweek and Golf World Magazine Player of the Week. The Mississippi native captured his second career tournament title and second of the year at the Gator Invitational last weekend. Randolph became the first player since Troy Muller (2000-01 season) to win two tournaments in a year.
The rest of the lineup is the same as last week, with sophomores Joe David and Billy Brozovich and freshmen Pete Kellermann and Tom Brown.
The Rebels are hoping to improve upon last week's result, as they finished 10th in their first tournament of the spring.
"Our team did not play well as an overall group last week," head coach Ernest Ross said. "Jonathan had a great tournament, but our team didn't give him enough help. The cold weather has made it tougher to prepare, but we cannot use that as an excuse. Our players have exhibited a very good attitude towards preparing for this event. I look for much better results this week."
Live scoring of the tournament will be available every three holes by going to www.OleMissSports.com and clicking on the link in the Rebel Hub.
