OXFORD, Miss. - David Phillips belted out his third home run in as many games to help power No. 17 Ole Miss (2-1) to a series win over Louisiana-Monroe (1-2) with a 13-2 victory at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field on Sunday.

Phillips was 2-for-3 on the afternoon with two runs scored and two RBI. He also drew a walk to pace a Rebel offense that tallied 14 hits on the afternoon. Zach Miller also had a solid outing, going 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored, two RBI, a walk and was hit by a pitch.

Trent Rothlin (1-0) picked up the win in his debut for the Rebels, working 6.0 innings and allowing only one run on two hits with four walks and two strikeouts. Brett Huber and David Goforth then combined for the final 3.0 innings, holding the Warhawks to one run on two hits with four strikeouts and no walks.

Corey Brown (0-1) took the loss for Louisiana-Monroe as he allowed two runs on six hits with two walks and three strikeouts.

"Today was a good finish to the weekend," said Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco. "We struggled a little offensively early on, but David Phillips had a tremendous weekend and added to it today with his home run and all the RBIs.

"Rothlin was terrific on the mound, but not his best," Bianco said. "I don't think his command was there, but it was his first outing. I thought overall our pitching staff was great all weekend. When you look at it, in 27 innings we had one bad inning. It cost us a ball game, but all in all it was a pretty good weekend. I thought Miles Hamblin played great behind the plate today. It was good to see him get things going with his home run to extend our lead."

ULM scored first, coming up with a solo home run in the fourth inning as Nick Wade hit a long shot to left field.

Ole Miss answered in the bottom half of the frame when Phillips came up with his solo shot to left field to knot the score at one run each.

The Rebels took the lead in the sixth, pushing two runs across with an RBI single from Tanner Mathis that scored Matt Smith and a bases loaded walk of Kevin Mort that pushed Miller home.

Ole Miss extended the lead in the seventh, exploding for 10 runs on five hits and five walks to push the game out of reach. Hamblin opened the inning with a solo home run to right field and the scoring continued from there as the Rebels batted around in the inning.

ULM added a second run in the eighth inning when Boomer Blanchard scored on a sacrifice fly from Wade. Blanchard doubled to open the inning and took third on a wild pitch before scoring on the Wade fly out.

The Warhawks would not get another run across, however, as Huber and Goforth shut down Louisiana-Monroe the rest of the way.

Ole Miss returns to action on Tuesday when the Rebels host Arkansas State at 3 p.m. at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field. The Red Wolves enter the mid-week contest after coming off a 2-0 weekend against Southern Illinois - but did not get to finish the series as Sunday's game was canceled.
