Yarbrough Named SEC Freshman Of The Week

Yarbrough was a critical part of the Rebels' success last week as Ole Miss (19-6, 4-2 SEC) posted mid-week wins over Southern Miss and Saint Louis before taking the weekend series from No. 2 Florida in Oxford in SEC play. The wins helped the Rebels jump up to as high as 11th in the national rankings released on Monday.
The infielder from Allen, Texas, posted four multiple-hit games on the week as the Rebel offense pounded out a season-high 19 hits twice (against Saint Louis and Florida on Saturday) and scored a season-high 15 runs against the Gators in Saturday's series clinching win.
Yarbrough went 3-for-5 with three runs scored as the lead-off hitter for the Rebels against Southern Miss on Tuesday night at Trustmark Park, helping push Ole Miss to an 11-6 win over the Golden Eagles to start the week off with a bang. He followed that up with a 2-for-4 performance against Saint Louis and reached base four times in the lead-off spot to help propel the Rebels to another win - this time a 14-5 victory over the Billikens.
Yarbrough continued his solid performance at the plate in Friday's series opener against the second-ranked Gators, opening up with a lead-off single and a steal of second in the first inning before scoring the Rebels' first run of the game as part of a two-run rally in the first inning. He went 2-for-4 in the game to help Ole Miss to the 3-2 win.
In Saturday's game against Florida, Yarbrough continued to be steady at the plate, turning in a 2-for-4 performance with three RBI in the series clinching win.
For the week, Yarbrough hit .450 and posted a .550 slugging percentage with a .520 on base percentage. It is the first weekly honor for the freshman from the league office this season.
Ole Miss will return to action on Tuesday when the Rebels return to Trustmark Park to take on Mississippi State in the annual Governor's Cup game. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
