Rebels Blast Mercer 11-0 At Buzz Classic

WOODSTOCK, Ga. - Cali Overbeck blasted a three-run home run to straight-away center in the bottom of the third inning and Aly Presswood hit her first career homer, a solo shot in the fourth, as the Ole Miss Rebels (12-5) rolled to an 11-0 run-rule victory over Mercer on the first day of the Buzz Classic on Friday.

The blast was Overbeck's second of the season and third career round-tripper. The three-run shot tied her career high with three RBI. Presswood's homer was the first of her career and capped the Rebels' 11-run outburst.

"What a great way to start the tournament," said Ole Miss head coach Missy Dickerson. "We did a great job hitting the ball as a team, we got some big hits and Lindsey and Kelly did a good job shutting them down."

Ole Miss jumped onto the scoreboard with four runs in the bottom of the first. Junior first baseman Brittany Barnhill got the scoring started with a two-run double to the wall in left center and was followed by right fielder Alyssa McGovern, who poked an RBI single into left to put the Rebels up 3-0. Designated player Amber Tramp closed out the inning with a sac fly to center that gave Ole Miss a 4-0 advantage.

McGovern added an RBI fielder's choice in the third that gave the Rebels a 5-0 lead. She finished the game 1-for-2 at the plate with two RBI. Barnhill added two hits and two RBI in two at-bats, while shortstop Lauren Grill collected two hits and a run scored in three trips to the plate.

Junior Lindsey Perry (5-1) picked up the win for Ole Miss after allowing no runs on two hits in 4.0 innings of work. Sophomore Kelly Chandler entered in relief in the fifth and pitched the final inning giving up no runs and striking out one.

Next up, Ole Miss will take on Tennessee-Martin and Tennessee Tech tomorrow at the Buzz Classic beginning at 3 p.m.
