Rebel Golfers Move Up At SEC Championship
4/17/2010 | Men's Golf
ST. SIMON'S ISLAND, Ga. -- The Ole Miss men's golf team made a move on Saturday at the SEC Championship, shooting a 284 and stands in a tie for sixth heading into the final round at the Sea Island Seaside Course.
Junior Jonathan Randolph fired a 2-under 68 and at 137, is tied for third, one shot back of South Carolina's George Bryan IV. He is trying to become the first Rebel to win the SEC Championship since Lan Gooch in 1988. Randolph already has three wins to his credit this year.
There are seven players under par for the tournament with six guys within three at least shots of the leader.
Georgia leads the team standings at even par 560. Arkansas is second at 564, Tennessee is third at 568. South Carolina (570) and LSU (571) round out the top five. The Rebels are among four teams who trail LSU by only one shot.
"We kept it close to par. We made up ground on the field. I think some of our team felt pressure of finishing off a good round. All in all we had a pretty good day," head coach Ernest Ross said. "Jonathan played great and consistent. He only missed two greens and made one bogey. This is one of the closest tournaments ever in memory. Every single shot will be important."
Freshman Tom Brown shot 71, sophomore Joe David carded a 72 and freshman Pete Kellermann posted a 73 to round out the Rebel scoring.
The Rebels will tee off the final round beginning at 7:20 a.m. CT. Fans can follow all the action by going to www.OleMissSports.com and clicking on the live stats link in the Rebel Hub.
