Haltom Named To SEC Community Service Team

The SEC sponsors Community Service Teams for all 20 league sponsored sports. The Community Service Team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to his community in superior service efforts.
A senior mechanical engineering major from Ridgeland, Mississippi, Haltom has been an active member in the Oxford and Ole Miss communities throughout his career, and has been visible in various community outreach projects across campus and in the region.
In his time as a Rebel, Haltom has made Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Oxford a priority, working with area youth on a regular basis. He has also participated in the Reading with the Rebels program that travels to area schools to encourage reading with local school children.
The 6-4 catcher has also participated in the SEC Canned Food Drive each year to help stock local food pantries as well as made visits to St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis. He has also participated in the Ole Miss Bats and Balls Clinic to encourage area youths to participate in baseball.
Haltom is a member of several academic honoraries, including Phi Kappa Phi and Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society, Haltom also served as the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Chair and was named as the 2010 recipient of the Outstanding Senior Engineer Award. Haltom also is a Carrier Scholar and received the Lucky Day Merit Scholarship presented to National Merit Finalists. He is also a 2010 recipient of the Taylor Medal which is awarded to no more than one percent of the student body and students must have a 3.85 GPA to be eligible.
Haltom and the Rebels will return to action on Wednesday afternoon when the Rebels take on South Carolina in the first day of action at the SEC Tournament at Regions Park in Hoover, Ala. The contest with the Gamecocks will take place approximately 30 minutes following the conclusion of the day's first game between Auburn and Alabama that begins at 9:30 a.m.
