OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss rifle team posted a school record team aggregate score of 4654 on Saturday, but it wasn't enough as the Rebels dropped a close home match to Great America Rifle Conference foe Kentucky by a team score of 4676-4654. The team total bested the previous mark of 4647 set earlier this season against West Virginia.
"I am really proud of how the squad competed today, said Ole Miss head coach Valerie Boothe." Everyone put in 100-percent effort and it paid off big. We may not have come up with the win today, but several had personal bests and were able to set a new school record."
Sophomore Kim Coffey led the Rebels in the air rifle with a team-high mark of 585, while senior Meredith Holman and junior Keely Stankey finished close behind with scores of 584 and 583, respectively. Rounding out the Rebel air line were freshmen Abbey Stanec (581) and Alivia Yeager (573).
Stanec and Stankey led the squad in the smallbore both firing a team-high mark of 582. Freshman Melissa Quartarone turned in a smallbore score of 580, while Coffey posted a total of 577. Holman rounded out the Ole Miss smallbore line with a mark of 567.
The Rebels will continue the weekend home stand with a match against Murray State tomorrow at 8 a.m. at the Patricia C. Lamar National Readiness Center in Oxford. All home matches are open to the public.
