Tough Conditions Greet Rebels In First Round Of Bridgestone

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Senior Billy Brozovich and sophomore Tom Brown each shot a 2-over 74, as the Ole Miss Rebels finished the first round in a tie for 12th place at the Bridgestone Collegiate Saturday afternoon.
The Rebels shot a 300 for the day and sit nine strokes behind tournament-leading South Carolina after a competitive first round. 13 of the 15 teams in the tournament are within ten strokes of the Gamecocks.
"It was cold and windy," said Ole Miss head coach Ernest Ross. "We knew par would be a very good score. We did well by not having any of our top four shoot higher than 76, but we just didn't have anyone shoot a really good score-even par or a few under. I know we can play better, but it's time to do it and not talk about it."
Teams were supposed to play 36 holes on Saturday and 18 on Sunday, but cold temperatures and persistent rain forced a change to a 36-hole format.
Brown got off to a quick start for the Rebels in his best round of the season. The England-native birdied two of his first three holes before remaining at par or below for 12 of his final 15 holes. Tied for 20th place, Brown will look to earn his second career top-20 finish and first of the season.
It was an up-and-down day for Brozovich, who birdied four holes and went over-par on five.
The two sit four strokes behind Patrick Barrett of North Carolina and Albin Choi of North Carolina State, who are tied for first place at 2-under.
Senior Joe David and freshman Joe Lewis each shot a 4-over 76.
