Freshmen Lead Rebels In Day Two of Brickyard Collegiate

MACON, Ga. - Freshman Joe Lewis carded the best round for No. 24 Ole Miss with a 1-over 73, as the Rebels shot a 299 to conclude the second round of the Brickyard Collegiate Championship in 10th place.
No. 21 Georgia Tech maintained their spot at the top of the team standings, shooting a 285 to increase their lead to 13 strokes over second-place North Florida.
"We started well, but had some bad holes in the middle of the round," said head coach Ernest Ross.
"This course, with fast, contouring greens, has exposed a weakness."
After struggling in the opening round Friday, Lewis posted a solid round, only bogeying two holes.
Fellow freshman Blake Morris repeated his 2-over performance from Saturday.
Senior Joe David, who began the day in fourth place, carded a 4-over 76-his first round over-par this season.
David remains in contention for a top-five finish, sitting three strokes back from the fifth spot in the individual standings.
"We struggled today with our scoring skills," said Ross. "It also seems that we get too down on ourselves when bad things happen. We have to maintain our self-confidence and not get shaken."
"I still believe we can play better and move up tomorrow."
