Diamond Rebs Open Fall Ball This Weekend With Scrimmages

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss baseball team will take to the field this weekend to open fall practice with a pair of scrimmages that kick off seven weekends of work as the Rebels prepare for the 2012 season.
After weeks of individual workouts, the Ole Miss baseball team hits the diamond for the first time as a full squad with Scout Day starting at 1:30 p.m. on Friday and a noon scrimmage on Saturday.
"We've been out there for about three weeks doing individual work and it's exciting now to get everyone out on the field together and watch them compete in some intra-squad games," said Ole Miss head It's always a great time because you get to see the returners a year stronger and better, and we get to welcome one of the best recruiting classes we've had to campus."
The Rebels return 21 players from the 2011 campaign and welcome 20 newcomers to the squad heading into the fall period of work. Ole Miss is looking to make its 10th NCAA Tournament appearance under Bianco in the 2012 season, having advanced to the post-season nine of the last 11 years.
Among the 20 newcomers are nine players who were drafted in the 2011 MLB First Year Player Draft, but elected to come to Ole Miss rather than head to the professional ranks.
Practices will run for the next six weeks before culminating with the annual Ole Miss Baseball Fall World Series. The series will be a best of three series and will be played beginning on Wednesday, Oct. 26, and run through Friday, Oct. 28, if necessary.
