BATON ROUGE, La. - In a back-and-forth match Sunday afternoon at LSU, the Ole Miss soccer team fell to the Tigers, 3-2.
With the loss, Ole Miss fell to 4-5-1 (0-2 SEC) while LSU improved to 7-3-1 (2-0 SEC). Dylan Jordan and Jenna Strother each scored for Ole Miss.
"I am really proud of the team today and we played really hard," head coach Matt Mott said. "We gave ourselves chances to win. LSU is a very good team and a well-coached team. I am really proud of the performance and effort our team gave today - it will help us win SEC games in the future."
Rafaelle Souza gave Ole Miss its first good look of the game in the 16th minute. Emily Reid took the ball to the corner of the six and played it back to Souza who hit a one-time shot that missed wide.
A minute later, LSU threatened with a shot of its own but Rebel goalkeeper Alley Ronaldi made a diving one-handed save to knock the ball out of bounds.
With one second left on the clock in the first half, Jordan put the Rebels up 1-0. Strother took the ball endline and crossed the ball on the ground across the face of the goal. No Ole Miss was able to connect and the ball was cleared out for an Ole Miss corner kick.
With 18 seconds left and the clock running down, Mary Louise Clawson took the corner kick for Ole Miss. The ball bounced around in the box before Jordan was able knock the ball in for her third goal of the season.
The Tigers tied the game in the 49th minute on a goal from Taryne Boudreau. Boudreau was able to finish a close-range shot after a series of passes in the box from Carlie Banks and Natalie Martineau that drew Ronaldi off her line.
LSU took the lead, 2-1, in the 54th minute as Allysha Champman dribbled down the left side of the field and scored an unassisted goal to the top left corner.
In the 60th minute, Souza found Mandy McCalla on the top of the box but McCalla's attempt was saved.
Ole Miss tied the game at 2-2 in the 80th minute as McCalla's cross from the left wing found Strother who scored her second goal of the game. LSU went ahead again in the 86th minute as Boudreau blasted a long range shot that beat Ronaldi.
Ole Miss ended the game with 13 shots (seven on goal) while LSU finished with 16 (nine on goal). Ronaldi made six saves for the Rebels.
Ole Miss will host Auburn Friday night at 7 p.m. and Alabama Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
