Rebel Netters Enjoy Successful Start At SEC Indoor

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Ole Miss men's tennis team had a successful first day at the SEC Indoor Championships as four players advanced to the third round in singles and three doubles teams made it to the second round.
The day began with doubles. Junior Adrian Forberg Skogeng and freshman Joe Rogers defeated Alabama's Michael Thompson and David Vieyra 8-5. Jonas Lutjen and Nik Scholtz beat Nick Jones and Kyle Koch of South Carolina 8-6. The twins, Marcel Thiemann and Chris Thiemann, had a first round bye.
In singles, four players advanced to the third round. The Rebels are tied with Georgia for the most players remaining in the main draw singles.
After a first round bye, Marcel, the No. 5 seed, defeated Alejandro Gomez of Kentucky 7-5, 6-1. Lutjen downed Ben Barnette of South Carolina 6-3, 6-1 in the first round, and then earned a victory against Vanderbilt's top player, Ryan Lipman. Lipman, the No. 8 seed, retired down 6-0, 1-0.
Two of the Rebel freshmen are into the third round. Scholtz, seeded 9-16 in his first tournament for the Rebels, won both his matches to move on. In the first round he defeated Carl Eguez of South Carolina 6-3, 6-4 and then rallied to knock off Florida's Nassim Slilam 4-6, 6-0, 7-6(2) in the second round. Kallberg won two tiebreakers on the day including in the first round against UK's Maks Gold. In the second round, he took out highly touted Florida freshman Florent Diep 6-4, 5-7, 7-6(3). Diep was seeded 9-16.
