Senior Marcel Thiemann will be blogging throughout the 2012 season on all things Rebel tennis. Marcel is a two-time All-American and two-time All-SEC first team honoree from Lehrte, Germany.
Hey Rebel Fans,
It is not only Senior Day for the Ole Miss Men's tennis team Saturday, but we play Mississippi State for the SEC West Championship at 1 p.m. at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center.
The SEC regular season has been difficult for us with three very close losses, including the last match against Kentucky, who is undefeated in the SEC. We felt like we could have won every single one of those matches (including the non-conference match against Virginia). Yet, we are getting better with every match, and we know that he, who believes in himself and works the hardest, will reap the benefits.
We are looking forward to the showdown against our arch-rival in Oxford Saturday. The team burns to take revenge for the loss at the River Hills Cup earlier this year. State, No. 9 in the nation, is a very tough team, but so are we. It is our time now to win a close match, so we can reach our goal to win the SEC West Championship and take some momentum into the SEC Tournament next week.
As I said in the beginning, it is Senior Day for Chris and me. We would like to thank every single one of you who made our experience in Oxford so special. You all (fans) are one of the main reasons with your kindness and support that we have been able to adjust to a new place so easily. We both have had the privilege of playing in front of the best fans in the nation for many years now, and we know how much fun it is and what a confidence booster it is to feel supported. We have enjoyed every single moment, and we are going to miss it a lot. Thank you all!
Something that you are probably not yet aware of is that Ole Miss is among the nation's leaders in average attendance yearly. With your support we have taken down some of the toughest teams in the nation in recent years. And for our last regular season home match we would like to invite every one of you to come out and support your Rebels and to simply enjoy some of the best tennis in the nation. Let's get this championship, Rebels!
Admission is free and you can bring your own food and beverage. We promise that it will be worth your time. Be there and be loud!
Hotty Toddy and Go Rebs!!!
