David Shoots A 72 In First Round Of Regional

ATHENS, Ga. -- Senior men's golfer Joe David shot a 1-over 72 in the opening round of the NCAA Athens Regional on Thursday afternoon at the University of Georgia Golf Course.
David currently sits in 37th place at the conclusion of the day's action.
The top five teams and the top individual who is not a member of those teams will advance to the NCAA Championships May 29-June 3 in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
No. 4 Alabama jumped out to an early two-stroke lead over No. 10 North Florida. East Carolina and No. 24 Georgia currently hold third and fourth places, respectively, while Houston and UNC Wilmington are tied for the fifth spot.
Four individuals fired a 66 on Thursday--each from a team currently in the top-five. David is chasing James Erkenbeck of New Mexico and Taylor Floyd of Augusta State--each of whom shot a 67--for the single individual bid to the Championships.
Save for a tough beginning and conclusion to the round, David found little trouble on the par-71 course. After bogeying two of his three opening holes, David stayed at or under par until the 16th hole. The second team All-SEC selection rolled in birdies on the fifth, 12th, and 15th holes before bogeys on the 16th and 18th sent him into the clubhouse with a 72.
