David Vaults Up The Standings On Day Two

ATHENS, Ga. -- Ole Miss men's golfer Joe David carded a 3-under 68 in the second round of the NCAA Athens Regional to climb into a tie for eighth place on Friday at the University of Georgia Golf Course.
The top five teams and the top individual who is not a member of those teams will advance to the NCAA Championships May 29-June 3 in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
David trails Philip Chian of Long Beach State by one stroke for the regional's individual bid.
No. 4 Alabama stretched its lead to 12 strokes over second-place East Carolina. No. 10 North Florida, No. 24 Georgia and No. 16 New Mexico round out the top-five in the standings after the second round.
"Joe hit it great today on a long, tough course," said Ole Miss head coach Ernest Ross. "He worked hard on his putting after round one and found some new 'feel' keys. He has a great opportunity tomorrow to play well and advance to Nationals."
After a tough beginning and finish in Thursday's opening round, the senior got off to an excellent start on Friday with birdies on two of his first three holes and put together a solid finish with eight bogey-free holes.
The second team All-SEC selection rolled in six birdies for the day, including two on holes that he bogeyed Thursday. For the tournament, David sits at 2-under.
"I knew I wasn't out of it after shooting a 1-over yesterday," said David. "I just needed to come back and fire a good number in the second round. We set up a gameplan and worked on my putting. I don't have a cushion, being one shot back [from Chian], but another good round tomorrow will go a long way. I am looking forward to it."
