Rebels Take Doubles At Ranked+1 Invitational

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Ole Miss men's tennis players Jonas Lutjen and Johan Backstrom teamed up to post an 8-3 win over the George Washington duo of Danil Zelenkov and Nikita Fomin in the Black Doubles of the Virginia Ranked+1 Invitational Saturday.
In singles, Lutjen, ranked No. 21 in the nation, lost his first match of the year, falling to Virginia's Ryan Shane in the quarterfinals of the White Singles, 6-1, 6-4. Lutjen is now 7-1 on the year. Fellow senior Adrian Forberg Skogeng defeated UVA's Mitchell Polnet 6-3, 603 in the quarterfinals of the Gold Singles before falling to Fomin (GW) in the semifinals, 6-4, 6-4.
Sophomore William Kallberg dropped a three-setter to Penn State's Thomas Hanzlik in the quarterfinals of Blue Singles and then defeated Alex Van Gils of GW 6-4, 6-4 in consolation.
Play concludes Sunday with Lutjen, Kallberg and Forberg Skogeng all playing matches in consolation singles.
