Balanced Attack Leads Ole Miss Past Samford 3-0

Sept. 19, 2014 OXFORD, Miss. - In front of a loud crowd at the Gillom Sports Center, the Ole Miss Volleyball team used a balanced attack to down Samford 3-0 Friday in their second game of the Rebel Classic. The Rebels' night included a school-record .431 hitting percentage.
With the win, the Rebels remained undefeated at 12-0. They will host Lamar at 12:30 p.m., Saturday followed by Jackson State at 4:30 p.m., to conclude play in the Rebel Classic.
"This was an outstanding job by our ladies," head coach Steven McRoberts said. "I am really excited to see us playing this well not only as we go into the last day of the tournament tomorrow, but into next week when we start SEC play.
"Any time you hit above .400 against anybody, you've had a great night. We had a very balanced attack with four players hitting above .500. This is the best our defense has played. We were in the right spots. Overall just really proud of the way we played."
Among the four players who hit at or above .500 for Ole Miss, freshman Lexi Thompson posted nine kills, nine digs, two service aces, and two blocks and hit for a career-high .571.
In the middle, Ty Laporte and Nakeyta Clair hit .500 and .714, respectively, with nine kills and nine blocks combined. Sophomore Melanie Crow finished with eight kills and hit .333.
The Rebels posted 11 team blocks to Samford's none. The Bulldogs hit just .115 and had 25 errors, while Ole Miss had just five errors.
