Rebels Anticipating WNIT Bid on March 16
3/13/2015 | Women's Basketball
OXFORD, Miss. - After posting a 17-13 record, the Ole Miss women's basketball team is expected to earn a berth into the 2015 Women's National Invitational Tournament. Ole Miss has potential to host a game and if selected to host, will play a first-round game at Tad Smith Coliseum on Thursday, March 19.
The announcement of the entire WNIT field will come late on Monday night (March 16) after the NCAA Selection show. Information following the selection will be available on OleMissSports.com.
Should Ole Miss be selected as a host site, tickets for Thursday's game will be available beginning on Tuesday March 17 at 8 a.m. Tickets will be $6 for the general public for the first four rounds and will increase to $7 for the semifinals and finals should Ole Miss host those rounds. Ole Miss students will get in for free with their Ole Miss student ID for the first two rounds, while student tickets for the third round will be $4 and will be $5 for the semifinals and finals should Ole Miss host those rounds.
The 64-team tournament is a single-elimination event with all games played at sites of host schools. The WNIT is committed to offering deserved opportunities to women's basketball programs, and the 2015 Postseason WNIT features a full 64-team bracket.
The field will consist of 32 automatic berths -- one from each conference -- and 32 at-large teams. The intention of the WNIT selection committee is to select the 32 best available at-large teams in the nation. At-large teams must have a .500 overall record or better to be considered.
A team offered an automatic berth by the WNIT shall be the team that is a.) the highest-finishing team in its conference's regular-season standings, and b.) is not selected for the NCAA Tournament. A team that fulfills these qualities will earn the WNIT automatic berth for its respective conference, regardless of overall record.
Ole Miss who finished tied for seventh in the SEC standings, is in line for the SEC's automatic bid as it is predicted that seven teams from the SEC will be selected for the NCAA Tournament
