Box Score

ITTA BENA, Miss. -- The Rebels tied the school record for wins in a season Wednesday night, picking up the 30th victory of the season as Ole Miss (30-21) went on the road and defeated Mississippi Valley State (13-31) by a score of 9-0.

The win ties the mark of 30 wins set in the 2005 season. Ole Miss has a chance to break that record with a three-game series on the road at No. 25 Texas A&M this weekend.

Madi Osias (12-13) picked up the win for the Rebels, allowing two hits with two walks and four strikeouts through her 5.0 innings of work. Lauren Lindsey then closed things out, working the sixth and retiring all three batters faced.

Sydney Coe (1-10) took the loss, allowing two runs on one hit with two walks in her 2.0 innings of work.

"This is a great thing for our program," said Ole Miss head coach Mike Smith. "Being in the first year, you really want to do some special things. My hat is off to these ladies for putting in the time and work to get one percent better every day. I'm happy for the team, our fans and the Ole Miss community. This is a total team effort. Our job is not done yet, though, and hope to go on the road and add to that win total in this last series and the SEC Tournament.

"Madi was great tonight in the circle," Smith said. "Natalie (Martinez) started things off for us getting the big two-run home run. We got people on base, stole some bases, got some hits and played solid defense all the way around. Now we're looking forward to going on the road to play at Texas A&M."

Natalie Martinez got the Rebels on the board in the second inning, hitting a two-run home run with two outs to give Ole Miss the 2-0 lead on the Delta Devilettes. Bri Payne scored on the play after drawing a walk in the previous at bat. It was the sixth home run of the season for Martinez.

Elantra Cox added to the lead in the third inning after the freshman reached on an infield single. Following the hit, the Delta Devilettes ran to the mound to conference without calling for time and Cox took off at a sprint and reached third. A wild pitch then brought her home to give the Rebels the 3-0 lead.

Ole Miss continued to build on the lead in the fifth inning with three straight hits to start the inning. Grayce Majam reached on a bunt single before going from first to third on another bunt single from Cox. With runners at the corners, Alyssa Invergo doubled through the right side to score Majam and put two runners in scoring position for Miranda Strother with no outs on the board.

Strother then reached on a throwing error off a chopper back to the pitcher and advanced to third on the play, while Cox and Invergo both scored to give the Rebels a 6-0 lead. Strother then scored a batter later on a groundout to third from Alex Schneider and Ole Miss held a seven-run lead.

Ole Miss added two more runs in the sixth inning, capitalizing on a pair of errors to bring the runs home that took the lead out to 9-0 in favor of the Rebels.

Lindsey then came in to the circle to start the sixth and retired the side in order to secure the win for the Rebels.
