Former Rebel Tobby Turner Passes Away

Tobby Warren Turner, 58, who helped lead Ole Miss to the 1977 Southeastern Conference baseball tournament championship, passed away Monday, August 1, 2016 at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama.
Following his graduation from Aberdeen High School in Aberdeen, Mississippi, Turner attended Ole Miss for four years where he earned three letters as a pitcher for Coach Jake Gibbs.
During his baseball career at Ole Miss, Turner appeared in 41 games, starting 11, and compiled a 14-4 record on the mound. He pitched 111 innings for the Rebels, striking out 82 hitters, while giving up 73 walks and 129 hits. His career earned run average was 5.43.
Turner, who was born August 21, 1957 to Warren Young Turner and Virginia May Turner in Aberdeen, was a lifelong resident of Aberdeen. He was a member of Aberdeen First Baptist Church where he served as deacon.
He worked at Eutaw Construction as superintendent for thirty years.
Services will be at 2:00 p. m., Thursday, August 4, 2016 at Aberdeen First Baptist Church with Bro. Dave Dowdy and Bro.Chris Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Oddfellows Rest Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Malinda Hill Turner of Aberdeen, MS; one son, Ethan Turner of Aberdeen, MS; three nieces, Leeandra Grubbs (Jeff), Dawn Bickerstaff (Danny), Jennifer Duncan (Chris); a number of great nieces and nephews; and a close personal friend, Shea Cain.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Cathy Whitaker and Carol Poss.
Visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00 p. m, Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at Aberdeen First Baptist Church.
