Rebels Compete In Amateur Tournaments Through Winter Break

OXFORD, Miss - Several members of the No. 17 Ole Miss men's golf team competed in various amateur tournaments around the country after wrapping up a successful fall season that included three tournament victories, two runner-up finishes, and an NCAA-best 65-2 record. Take a look below at how they fared over the winter break.

Dixie Amateur 
Sophomore Beau Briggs posted a second round score of even-par 72 at TPC Eagle Trace. Briggs would go on to finish tied for 38th with an overall score of 11-over 299. 

South Beach International Amateur
Senior Ben Wolcott and Junior Kerry Sweeney made the cut after firing opening rounds of 3-under par 67 each at the 6,805-yard Normandy Shores Golf Club. The duo would go on to finish tied for 58th overall. Senior Noah West fired an opening round score of 2-over par 72, but missed the cut by four strokes. 

Patriot All-America
Sophomore Braden Thornberry looked to defend his 2015 title at the 2016 Patriot All-America. Thornberry fired an opening round score of 4-under par 66 at the 7,430-yard Gold Course at The Wigwam in Arizona and a second round score of 1-under 69 but finished at even-par 210 to tie for 15th place. Redshirt sophomore Josh Seiple finished tied for 63rd and Sweeney finished tied for 73rd. 

Saguaro Amateur
Briggs teamed up with Stephen Wall, of South Alabama, to finish fourth in the Saguaro Team Championship Four-Ball at Southern Dunes Golf Club. The pair finished the two-round tournament at 3-under par 141. Freshman Chip Getz competed in the stroke-play tournament and finished 4-over par 220 to tie for 40th. 

Crown Colony Collegiate
Freshman Brody Blackmon finished in a tie for ninth place at the Crown Colony Collegiate at Crown Colony Country Club in Lufkin, Texas. The Sulphur Springs, Texas native finished second among Southeastern Conference golfers with an 8-over par 152.

First Coast Amateur
Blackmon and West traveled to Amelia National Golf & Country Club in Jacksonville, Florida to compete in the First Coast Amateur. Blackmon fired a 2-under par 70 in the second of three rounds and finished tied for 15th place, while West posted a final round score of 1-under par 71 and finished tied for 29th. 

Ole Miss tees off their spring season at the Puerto Rico Classic at Rio Grande, Puerto Rico on February 19th. The Rebels will continue spring play on the Pacific coast at the Querencia Cabo Collegiate February 26-28 in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and at the Lamkin San Diego Classic at San Diego, California. The Rebels then head to Charleston, South Carolina to play in a competitive field at Hottie at Bulls Bay. Ole Miss looks to defend their 2016 title at the Old Waverly Intercollegiate at West Point, Mississippi and then will close their regular season play at the Ryman Hospitality Intercollegiate April 10-11 in Nashville, Tennessee before competing in the SEC Championship at Sea Island, Georgia April 21-23.
