Rebels Drop Five-Setter to Arkansas

OXFORD, Miss. -- Despite a triple-double from senior outside hitter Kate Gibson, the Ole Miss volleyball team dropped a 3-2 match to Arkansas here Sunday at the Gillom Athletics Performance Center.
Ole Miss had a chance to win it in the fourth leading by four points midway through the set and up 2-1 overall, but Arkansas rallied to force a fifth set. With momentum on their side, the Razorbacks jumped out to an early 8-3 lead at the changeover. The Rebels never got closer than three, as the Razorbacks closed out the set 15-11 and the match 3-2.
Arkansas led 18-15 in the first set, but the Rebels used a 5-1 run to take a 20-19 lead. The Razorbacks answered with a 5-2 run to close out the set 25-21.
The Rebels grabbed the early lead in set two, 7-2 forcing Arkansas to call timeout. Ole Miss increased its lead to 20-9 and the Razorbacks never got closer than five, as the Rebels won it 25-19 to tie the match.
Ole Miss hit .385 in set three and broke open a close one (8-8) with a 17-8 run to finish the set 25-16 and take a 2-1 lead in the match.
The Rebels led by five early in set four and by four (16-12) at the midway point, but the Razorbacks tied it up 17-17 on three kills by Pilar Victoria, who finished with a match-high 26, and two from Elizabeth Pamphile, who tallied 11. From there the two teams traded points and then one of Gibson's team-high 18 kills made it 23-23. Arkansas' Reagan Robinson only had four kills, but two of them came on the final two points of the set for 25-23 to send it to the fifth.

• Ole Miss is now 14-11 overall, 5-7 in the SEC.
• It marked the fourth consecutive five-setter against Arkansas, who has now won two straight in the series. The Rebels had won three in a row prior to this year.
• Senior Kate Gibson recorded her first ever triple-double with 18 kills, 14 digs and a career-high 11 blocks. She becomes the first Rebel since Amanda Philpot in 2012 to record a triple-double.
• Gibson recorded her 1,000th kill at Ole Miss and now has 1,392 for her career, which includes 380 kills at Memphis.
• Ole Miss posted a season-high 18 blocks
• Sophomore Nayo Warnell finished with 7 blocks
• Freshman Bayleigh Scott posted a career-high 8 blocks
• Sophomore Emily Stroup tallied 10 kills on a .364 clip
