Ole Miss Tops Mississippi State 3-1

OXFORD, Miss. - Behind a season-best .323 hitting percentage and career outings from middle blockers Bayleigh Scott and Nayo Warnell, the Ole Miss volleyball team defeated Mississippi State 3-1 (25-18, 25-27, 25-15, 25-23) here Sunday at the Gillom Athletics Performance Center to sweep the season series with the Bulldogs.
Ole Miss (15-11, 6-7) hit a blistering .607 in set one siding out at 86 percent and broke open the set to lead 15-9 midway through. They closed out the Bulldogs 25-18. The Rebels jumped out to a 14-5 lead in set two and later led 22-17, before State went on a 10-3 run to close out the set 27-25.
The Rebels hit .364 in set three, while State hit -.034 as Ole Miss got back on track and won the set 25-15 to take a 2-1 lead overall.
State did not go quietly as they held a 12-9 lead midway through set four trying to extend the match. Tied 20-20 late, consecutive kills from Lexi Thompson and Caitlin Wernentin and a State attack error gave Ole Miss their first lead in the set, 23-20. The Bulldogs answered, helped out by a couple of attack errors from the Rebels to tie it up at 23-23, but then a service error and Wernentin's ninth kill ended the matter 25-23.

• The Rebels held State to a .164 attack percentage.

The Rebels will travel to Athens, Georgia Nov. 10 for their second of two matches this year against Georgia before returning home to host Texas A&M on Nov. 12 at 2 p.m.
