TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Coming off the best season in program history, Ole Miss cross country has repeated the feat after both teams qualified for the NCAA Championships on Friday marking back-to-back trips to nationals for both programs.
It was the women's first South Region Championship in program history after coming in second last year.
Nine Rebels finished with All-Region Honors, with all five scorers from the women's team finishing in the top 25.
Shelby Brown led the pack for the women in seventh and a time of 20:15.4 but they ran as a group with Anna Braswell coming in 12th, Hannah Christen in 13th, Emily Bean in 14th and Clio Ozanne-Jaques finishing in 17th.
Coach Ryan Vanhoy was pleased with how well the women's team competed saying, "We had a plan to pack up together and run through the field. We wanted to start a little bit further back and then work our way through together."
After a first place finish and the teams best finish of the season, Vanhoy is excited about how the team is running as they head to next week's NCAA Championships.
Senior Sean Tobin led the men in sixth and a time of 30:15.7 in the first 10K race of the year. Derek Gutierrez came in 12th, Waleed Suliman in 14th, Parker Scott in 19th and Brandon Harvey finished in 30th.
"We counted on a couple of guys to really step up and fill that fifth position for us today," Vanhoy said. "Brandon Harvey did a fantastic job of doing that. He did exactly what we told him to do. He ran the race exactly how we told him to and he really helped secure our fourth-straight trip to NCAAs."
The Rebels will be back on the course for the season finale when they head to Louisville for the NCAA Championships on Saturday, Nov. 18.
