Men's Tennis Set to Begin SEC Play

OXFORD, Miss. --
The Ole Miss men's tennis team travels to Tuscaloosa, Alabama Friday to play the Crimson Tide at 6 p.m., in the team's Southeastern Conference opener. The Rebels will follow that up with a doubleheader at Jackson State on Sunday.

Last time out…
The Rebels enter SEC play at 4-2 after consecutive shutouts against Arkansas-Pine Bluff last Sunday in their home opener.

What to watch for…
Junior All-American Gustav Hansson posted the second best record (9-3) in the SEC last year among players in the top two of the lineup. In two years, he owns a 13-5 conference record, all in the top half of the lineup. Freshman Tim Sandkaulen will make his SEC debut. The Rebels' No. 1 doubles pair of Fabian Fallert and Grey Hamilton posted a 7-2 record in the SEC last year at No. 2 doubles.

Scouting Alabama…
After competing in the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic this past weekend, Alabama holds a 6-6 record this season. The Tide finished the weekend 1-2, with a 4-1 victory against Boise State. Sophomore Mazen Osama is ranked No. 62 in the ITA rankings and the Tide's No. 1 singles player.

Rebels and the Tide…
The Rebels hold a narrorw 34-33 advantage in the series. Last year the two teams split their matches, as Alabama defeated Ole Miss 4-3 in the regular season, before the Rebels turned around to top the Tide, 4-3, in the SEC Tournament.

Scouting Jackson State…
The Tigers had their first wins of the season this past weekend against Alcorn State and Mississippi Valley State.

The last time the two teams met (2015), the Rebels swept both matches.

Rebels in the Rankings…
In the latest ITA Rankings, junior Gustav Hansson is ranked No. 17 in singles. Freshman Tim Sandkaulen is ranked No. 111 in singles. He went 3-0 in singles and doubles against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Sophomore Fabian Fallert and junior Grey Hamilton are ranked No. 18 in doubles.
