OXFORD, Miss. - Plenty of good news came out of Ole Miss men's tennis Wednesday, beginning with the announcement of the All-SEC awards, and concluding with junior Gustav Hansson earning a bid to the NCAA Singles Championship, and sophomore Fabian Fallert and junior Grey Hamilton receiving a bid in doubles.
This marks the second straight NCAA singles bid for Hansson, who reached the round of 16 in his first appearance last year and earned All-America honors. He is currently ranked No. 19 in singles with a 20-11 overall record, 11-7 at No. 1. Earlier Wednesday, Hansson was named to the All-SEC First Team for the second year in a row.
"Gustav has had good year and it is great to see him be rewarded with another opportunity to participate in the NCAA singles event," head coach Toby Hansson said. "Last year he made the round of 16 and I know he will give it his best to try and get at least one step further this year."
Fallert and Hamilton, will be making their first appearance in the NCAA Doubles Championship. They have played No. 1 doubles this spring and are presently ranked No. 23 with a 15-11 overall record. Fallert and Hamilton won the ITA Southern Regional Championship in the fall and qualified for the National Indoor.
"Grey and Fabi have had a really good year in doubles," Hansson said. "It all started back in the fall when they won the ITA regionals and qualified for the national indoors, where they also picked up some good wins. This spring they have competed well at the top spot, and I know they are both really looking forward to making a run in the NCAA doubles event."
The singles and doubles championships will take place May 24-29 following the team championships in Athens, Georgia.
The Rebels earned their 24th straight NCAA bid and will face UC Santa Barbara in the first round, May 12 at 12 p.m. CT in Los Angeles, California.
