OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss men's tennis All-American Gustav Hansson has been part of a new initiative this summer launched by the ITF and the Grand Slam Development Fund to help top college players forge a career in the professional game.

Six players were selected to take part in the new venture to support future professionals currently attending college on the basis of their Intercollegiate Tennis Association and ATP/WTA ranking.

Hansson, who earned All-SEC first team honors and finished the year ranked No. 22 nationally in singles, was among four men and two women chosen to participate across two International College ITF/GSDF teams.

The program began with a training camp for each team before the players competed in scheduled ITF Pro Circuit tournaments across the United States.

After taking part in the training camp in mid-July, led by coach Kieron Vorster, Hansson played in back-to-back $25,000 tournaments in Champaign, Illinois reaching the main draw the second week. He then moved on to a tournament in Decatur Illinois for week three, before winding up the tour in Edwardsville, Illinois this week. Hansson won three matches in qualifying, including the final round Monday morning, to earn a spot in the main draw.

Hansson will face South Carolina's No. 1 player, Gabriel Friedrich, in the first round of singles Wednesday, but first he'll team up with former Ohio State Buckeye Hunter Callahan in doubles Tuesday afternoon.

The Rebels report back to campus later this month for the start of the fall semester.
