STILLWATER, Okla. - Ole Miss junior Braden Thornberry was one of 27 golfers named to the PING Southeast All-Region Team, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced Saturday afternoon. Players across six regions - Northeast, East, Southeast, Midwest, Central and West - earned all-region honors for 2018.

Thornberry earned the honor for the second time in his career and was competing in the 2018 NCAA Men's Golf Championships when the announcement was made in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Entering the tournament this weekend, the No. 1 ranked amateur in the world by Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com was top 20 nationally in the following categories: versus par (6th at -1.94), scoring average (7th-69.81), par 3 scoring (11th-3.02), par 5 scoring (12th-4.53), par 4 scoring (13th-3.98) and birdies (13th-149). Thornberry has collected four victories this season, increasing his career total to a school-record 11. He earned medalist honors at the Shoal Creek Invitational, FAMC Intercollegiate at The Grove, Hootie at Bulls Bay and Old Waverly Collegiate Championship.

Earlier this month, Thornberry became a first team All-SEC honoree for the second straight season, the sixth Rebel to ever accomplish that feat. He also was named a finalist for the Ben Hogan Award, the first Hogan Award finalist in school history. Thornberry is also a semifinalist for the Jack Nicklaus Award and is on the Haskins Award Watch List as well, an honor he won in 2017.

Last year, Thornberry was a PING Southeast All-Region selection before claiming PING First Team All-American accolades. The PING All-American teams will be determined at a later date.
