Hosts End Rebel Run in Consolation Bracket on Friday

TULSA, Okla. – The Ole Miss women's tennis pairing of Alexa Bortles and Sabina Machalova played solid tennis against excellent doubles pairings at the ITA All-American Championships on Thursday and Friday but were eliminated from the national competition after three matches.

Bortles and Machalova entered the tournament as the No. 17 ranked pairing by the ITA and faced off against No. 13 Anna Bright and Jasie Dunk of California in the opening round. Bright and Dunk were victorious in an 8-6 heartbreaking match to force the Rebel duo into the consolation bracket.

Matches were postponed on Wednesday due to rain leading to an immediate turn around for Bortles and Machalova on Thursday. The teammates responded with a huge 8-7(6) win against No. 14 Magda Adaloglou and Tamara Racine of Mississippi State.

Friday featured a consolation Quarterfinal match against No. 5 Martina Okalova and Vera Ploner of Tulsa after being upset in the opening round and winning their second match like the Rebel duo. Okalova and Ploner proved to be tough on their home court, advancing with an 8-4 victory.
