Rebels Coming Off Runner-Up Finish at Illini Women’s Invitational at Medinah
SAN MARCOS, Texas – The No. 15 Ole Miss women's golf team travels to Texas for the Jim West Challenge (Oct. 20-21) in San Marcos.
The two-day event will be played at Kissing Tree Golf Club, which will play 6,033 yards and par 72.
The Rebels will compete against the host school, Texas State, along with No. 22 Houston, No. 25 Florida State, No. 32 Oklahoma, No. 40 Texas Tech, No. 44 Texas A&M, Memphis , Miami (FL), Missouri, Notre Dame, TCU, Texas State, UTSA, and UNLV.
The Rebels finished fifth at last year's running of the tournament with every Rebel finishing in the top-40 individually.
"We're excited to head back to the Jim West Challenge," head coach Kory Henkes said. "The team has had an excellent week of preparation and is ready to get back out there. We have a lot of positives to take from our last two events and are ready to put together another great showing this week back in Texas."
Ole Miss is coming off a runner-up finish at the Illini Women's Invitational at Medinah (Oct. 7-8) and collectively shot the third-lowest 54-hole score in program history, going 10-under (290-289-275—854) during the two days of competition.
Kennedy Swann will play in the No. 1 position as she heads back to her home state. The Austin native is coming off her first individual win at the Illini Women's Invitational at Medinah, where she went par or better in all three rounds of competition on her way to a career-low 54-hole score of 9-under (68-72-67—207).
Pi-Lillebi Hermansson occupies the two spot after back-to-back top-10 finishes. The senior has carded double-digit birdies in each of the first three events, the only Rebel to do so.
Julia Johnson joined Hermansson as the top Rebels on the leaderboard last year at the Jim West Challenge. The two tied for 16th overall, with Johnson making an ace on the 72nd hole.
Conner Beth Ball makes her second appearance in the lineup this fall. Ball recorded a top-30 finish last year at the event with two rounds under par.
Ellen Hutchinson-Kay returns to the starting five, making her first appearance in the lineup since the opening event of the fall, the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational.
First round begins Sunday morning with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start and continuous play for 36 holes. Live scoring will be available through Golfstat.com.
