Rebels Capture Second Team Title of the Fall

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The No. 15 Ole Miss women's golf team picked up their second team title of the fall season at the Jim West Challenge on Monday.

The Rebels led wire-to-wire thanks to a first round, program record 19-under 269, which also set a tournament record to par. Ole Miss finished with rounds of 283 (-5) and 284 (-4) on their way to a new program record for lowest tournament total (836, -28), breaking the previous record by 13 strokes, which was set in the win at the Illini Women's Invitational at Medinah earlier this fall.

Ole Miss led the field in eagles (seven) and par 5 scoring (-35) on their way to the sixth team title in the Henkes' era.

Johnson finished runner-up with three rounds under par (67-69-71—207) setting a new career-best 54-hole score. Her score of 207 is the second lowest 54-hole score in program history. The junior earned her 10th top-5 finish of her career and has gone par-or-better in every outing this fall. Johnson led the field in par 5 scoring (-9) and tied for the team lead in birdies (12).

"It felt great to put myself back in contention this week," Johnson said. "I think my game is trending in the right direction and I'm excited to finish the fall season out in Cabo."

Conner Beth Ball carded three rounds par-or-better on her way to her fifth top-5 of her career. Ball set a new career-best 54-hole score, going 7-under (68-69-72—209), which is good for the fifth-lowest 54-hole score in program history. Ball led the field in par 5 scoring with Johnson (-9).

"Getting into the top five this week felt awesome," Ball said. "I've been working on keeping myself even throughout my round and I felt that I did a great job of that this week. It was great to see some success individually, but even better to see our team get another win this season."

Kennedy Swann finished top-20 back in her home state, going 66-73-73—212. The senior tied for the team lead in birdies with 12, and went 5-under on the par 5s. Swann has finished inside the top-17 individually in every event this fall.

Pi-Lillebi Hermansson was the biggest mover in the field on the final day. A 4-under 68 moved her up 21 spots to a tie for 22nd. Hermansson led the team in pars with 39, and improved each round, going 73-72-68—213 and finished par-or-better for the third event this fall.

Ellen Hutchinson-Kay went 68-76-75 to tie for 43rd. The sophomore went 7-under on the par 5s, and tied for the team lead in eagles (two) with her fellow Swede, Hermansson.

The Rebels return to the course for the Battle at the Beach, Nov. 1-3, in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
