LAST MATCH HIGHLIGHTS VS. UT MARTIN
A bevy of personal bests in smallbore propelled the then-No. 5 Ole Miss rifle team past then-No. 17 University of Tennessee at Martin, 4668-4591 in Kentucky on Oct. 13. The Rebels posted their fifth best score in school history, while junior Abby Buesseler tied the third highest smallbore score in program history with a 586.

The Rebels took a commanding lead early, outshooting the Skyhawks 2317-2272 in the three-event discipline. Senior Alana Kelly surpassed her previous smallbore mark by four points to post a 583. She tied her best prone score like Buesseler, and was one away in both kneeling and standing. Rounding out the counters were sophomores Jillian Zakrzeski (575) and Erin Walsh (573).

Ole Miss also dominated in air rifle outfiring UT Martin 2351-2319. Claire O'Neel, a freshman from Frederick, Maryland, posted the highest score of the match with a 591. She tied Kelly (586) for second in aggregate with 1169 points each. Buesseler finished comfortably ahead as the top overall shooter (588) with 1174 total points. Junior Kamilla Kisch and Zakrzeski also finished the event with 586 points. Kisch finished tied for fifth (1164) with UT Martin's Rachel Sprague to round out the Rebel total.

SCOUTING THE BLACK KNIGHTS
No. 8 Army has yet to compete this season after finishing sixth at the 2019 NCAA Championships. The squad made its first national appearance since 2013-14 with the help of a program-record score of 4678 in its NCAA Qualifier match. Army returns four counters who competed at the national competition in Clayton Hanson, Kaitlyn Kutz, Aaron Flowers, and Lauren McMahan. Saturday's match will have family ties as Flowers is the son of Ole Miss coach Marsha Beasley.

RECORD BREAKERS
The Ole Miss rifle team spent the first two weeks of the season at No. 5 in the College Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) Top 20 polls. It is the highest the Rebels have ever climbed in national rankings. The team currently sits at No. 7 nationally.

Rebel Rifle previously reached as high as No. 6 in the polls following Ole Miss' sixth-place finish at the 2006 NCAA Rifle Championships and were No. 7 last season for one week after firing a 4685 on January 13 against Akron in Columbus, Ohio.

LOADED WITH RETURNING TALENT
The Rebels return nine letterwinners, including Great America Rifle Conference (GARC) Honorable Mention honorees in senior Hayley Carroll and sophomore Jillian Zakrzeski, the team's top aggregate scorer from a year ago (1165). The squad also returns four of the team's top five aggregate performers from last year's squad that spent several weeks in the Top 8 before finishing the season No. 10. Junior Abby Buesseler should also be a key contributor this season after leading the team in smallbore with a 577 average.

As a team, the Rebels posted four of the top 10 scores in program history last season as well as nine of the top 20. Ole Miss posted a three-score NCAA qualifying average of 4672 with marks of 4685, 4665 and 4665. The Rebels incredible 4685-point total fired on January 13 against Akron was just two points shy of the program record set in 2018.

MARSHA'S MINUTE
On hosting No. 8 Army West Point:
"We are very much looking forward to our first home match and competing with Army West Point. We have a great facility and enjoy hosting."

On a potentially even match:
"This should be an interesting contest. Ole Miss and Army are pretty evenly matched. Last year they won our regular season contest while we finished ahead of them at Conference Championships. Ole Miss lost two of our counters to graduation while Army graduated only one.

On previous matches:
"We posted a good score in our first match while this will be the first match of the year for Army. Army West Point is a strong team. They had a record setting season last year that included participation in the NCAA Championship."

UP NEXT
Ole Miss will remain at home and continue its GARC slate when No. 1 West Virginia comes to town for an 8 a.m. CT match next Saturday, Nov. 2.
